Kinderhook Landing is located on the Hudson River in a private compound at 1 Kinderhook Street in the Hamlet of Stuyvesant Landing, Columbia County about two and one half hour's drive north from New York City.
Kinderhook Landing was built in stages between 1650 and 1873. The building contains approximately 14,000 sq. feet of interior space. Kinderhook Landing was fully restored in 1990 and then divided into five separate independent attached houses based upon the date of original construction.
Kinderhook Landing has a total of 16 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms, 7 half bathrooms and 5 (2 Dutch, 3 Rumford) fireplaces. The building was known for many years as the Stuyvesant Hotel. The hotel and tavern were operated by Gilbert Clapp since 1841, as successor to the hotel operated by Peter Ackers, on the bank of the Hudson River since approximately 1800. It is believed that Kinderhook Landing was used as a way station on the Underground Railroad.
